What a Sewer Camera Inspection Actually Shows

Instead of guessing or digging, we send a camera down the line and watch a live feed. Here's what it reveals, and why seeing it changes what you pay for.

A sewer camera inspection takes the guesswork out of drain problems. Instead of digging or snaking blindly, we send a waterproof camera down your line and watch a live feed of exactly what is happening inside the pipe. Here is what that camera actually reveals, and why seeing it changes what you pay for.

How it works

We feed a flexible cable with a high-resolution camera on the tip into your sewer line through an existing access point. As it travels, it sends back live video of the inside of the pipe, and a locator tells us how deep and where any problem sits, right down to the spot in your yard.

What we see on the screen

  • Tree roots. Fine roots creep in through pipe joints and grow into a mesh that snags everything moving through the line. The camera shows how far they have spread. Roots are the most common problem we find in older Boston-area lines.
  • Grease and buildup. Years of fats, soap, and debris coat the pipe walls and narrow the opening. On camera it looks like the pipe is closing in on itself.
  • Cracks and breaks. A cracked, offset, or collapsed section shows up clearly, the kind of problem no snake can fix and where a cleaning is not enough.
  • Bellies. A section of pipe that has sagged holds standing water and waste, which causes repeat clogs in the same spot.
  • Foreign objects. Wipes, toys, and other things that do not belong.
  • Whose pipe it is. Sometimes the problem sits at the city connection, not on your line, and the camera settles that before anyone pays for the wrong fix.

Why seeing it saves you money

When you can see the actual problem, you stop paying to snake the same clog year after year. The camera tells us whether you need a simple cleaning, hydro jetting to clear heavy buildup, or a repair to a broken section. You only pay to fix what is actually wrong, and you watch the same screen we do.

When a camera inspection is worth it

  • Recurring clogs that come back no matter how often the line gets snaked
  • Before buying a home, so you are not inheriting a hidden sewer bill
  • After a backup, to find the real cause
  • Any time you want to know the true condition of an older line
